Marie Huston

Marie Huston is a late bloomer.

After living a perfectly normal life with no trace of creative ability or inclination, Marie became addicted to gardening in her late forties.  She transformed her ordinary, grassy front yard into a terraced garden containing 350 varieties of named daylilies, over 200 different types of hosta, Greek statuettes and a fountain.

In her early fifties, Marie's posts at a gardening website attracted the attention of an editor who asked her to write a regular column on the humorous side of gardening for a major internet site.  She soon turned to fiction and when her short stories began to win awards, she wrote a Civil War novel set in North Georgia.  Her achievements caught the eye of a literary agent who is now presenting this novel to New York publishers.

In her mid-fifties, Marie discovered watercolors and, voila!  An artist was born.

As with her gardening and writing, Marie's art is self-taught.  Whether she takes her easel to the garden or brings her garden into the studio, Marie loves the bright colors of individual blooms.  She enjoys capturing the atmosphere of familiar places in the early morning hours or at dusk, but her favorite landscapes are secret gardens, those peaceful sanctuaries behind private homes which she can partially glimpse through gates and fences.

Look for Marie Huston's watercolors at The Creative Mark, 165 South Main Street, Madison, Georgia, and at festivals throughout Georgia during the spring and fall.  Marie is a member of the Atlanta Artists Center and the Georgia Watercolor Society.

Marie grew up in Athens, Georgia, and now resides in Marietta.  While living her normal life, she was employed as a legal secretary with a nationally recognized law firm in Atlanta.  When her creative juices began to flow, she went on a part-time schedule and works today in their technology department in the emerging field of electronic discovery.
